Mens Fitness

Critical Approach

Men's Fitness UK Magazine

Genre:
From the title you can tell that this magazine is aimed at older males, that have an interest in keeping fit. Looking at a range of magazine covers from men's fitness you can see that they usually have a male celebrity or model posing on the front. Inside the magazine you can see that there are work outs that build your muscle, these articles would be more interesting for me than to women as women want to tone up and lose weight whereas men like to build up there muscles.

Production House:
American media, who is a modern publishing company that publishes magazines mainly aimed at the male genre, publish men's fitness. This magazine was founded in 1987, and has been publish issues every month since 1988. American Media also publishes magazines such as muscle&fitness, shape and flex.

Producers:
Jon Lipsey is the current editor in chef at Men's Fitness, like most editor he had a great interest in the articles published by men's fitness. He has a great interest in helping people progress in fitness professions and business's.

Content:
Men's Fitness publishes articles mainly based around workouts, fitness and nutrition. they also give advice to men about dating sex, male fashion and male grooming but mainly it is about the fitness side. They also have interviews with stars and how they train, this is to give men inspiration, and gives males a figure to aim for.

Style Production:
Like most magazines there is usually a celebrity in the middle of the cover and either side captions or titles from the articles inside to draw attention and catch the eye of potential buyers. They mainly use black, white, red and blues colours on the cover and throughout the magazine, these aren't classed as girly colours when they are put with the right fonts and layout. The magazine has a formal feel to it, this will draw males in as they like to think they are hard workers with formal lifestyles.

Target Audience:
This magazine is aimed at males aged 21-40 years of age that have an interest in fitness and how they can improve their physical health. Males interested in this magazine would probably be keen gym go-er's and the articles would be of interest to me that also enjoys team sports and seeing their mate.

Elle Magazine

Critical Approach

Elle Magazine

Genre:
Elle magazine is aimed at females, you can tell this because the magazine uses colours the will attract females such as white, red, pink ect. You can also tell this because the cover always has a female on it and the main one, inside all the fashion is female clothing.

Production House:
Elle magazine originates from France where Helene Gordon-Lazareff founded it with her husband Pierre Lazareff. Peirre was also the founder of a French newspaper. Helene wanted the magazine to inspire females interested in fashion and to be used as a kind of fashion index. The magazine was launched in America 34years after it was first was launched in France. Slowly it grew and is now launched in 25 other countries as well.

Producers:
Robbie Myers is now the editor-in-chief of the US edition, and has been since 2000. She has worked magazines such as Rolling Stones, Instyle, Seventeen and Careers. She had only been working at Elle for two years before she because editor-in-chief. She also starred in hit series ugly betty, playing herself as the editor of Elle.

Content:
Elle magazine offers a wide range of article that females will be interested such as runway news, showing pictures from the recent runways and informing the audience how the runway way delivered and received. They also do articles on the latest fashion trends, who’s setting them and who is wearing them.  Tips on beauty, hairstyles, and how to keep healthy are so given seeing as these are things a wide range of females are interested in.

Style Production:
Elle magazine is set out in a very sophisticated way, with a smart cover normally with a successful female on the cover. One of the main fonts used in century gothic, this is because its quiet a girly font and stands out to the female eye. The colours used are light feminine colours, white, red, pink and black are colours often used on the cover and throughout the magazine. The magazine is quiet a thick magazine and the stem is strong, on the stem it is normally plain white with the title and issue date on it, its usually kept simple.

Target Audience:
Elle is aimed at females aged 20 to 30, who have an interest in their image and fashion. You can tell this because on average the price is around £3 an issue and to a female at college or university (16-21) this would be quite a lot of money for a magazine. Like before the colours and contents tell’s you very clearly it is a magazine aimed at females. Although it is aimed at females ages 20-30, not all females will be interested in buying it as it has a very particular fashion taste and doesn’t cater for a wide range of trends, in other words it is a very ‘girly’ magazine.
